Experience
Brian joined Eurofins in 2007. Prior to this he had worked since 1995 at CCFRA Technology Ltd as Head of the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department. At CCFRA he managed a team of 50-70 scientists providing analysis and scientific advice to the food industry and government departments.
Prior to joining CCFRA he worked in local government scientific services for 22 years (London and Worcester) with the last 8 years as official Public Analyst to 2 authorities, Food Examiner to several authorities and with an Official Agricultural Analyst appointment under the Agriculture Act. He was also contracted as the chemist and microbiologist to a small water company (East Worcester Water PLC), and has carried out numerous inspections of companies and laboratories to various official standards. In 1993, he was appointed as County Analyst and Scientific Adviser to Hereford and Worcester County Council. He has appeared in court on numerous occasions for both the prosecuting enforcement authorities and in defence of the food industry on various matters related to food safety and quality, contract disputes, consumer protection and false trades descriptions.
His interests include sampling, quality systems and meat and meat products. He has written a guidance document for the food industry on the calculation of the meat content of meat and meat products, and carried out research on the migration of fat in meat pies. Prior to joining Eurofins, he was appointed as Customs Chemist to HM Revenue and Customs, representing them in Europe. Brian has carried out a major project in Kuwait to review their food enforcement system and put in place systems of risk assessment for sampling and food outlet inspections, and assisted with the design of their new laboratory and Quality systems.
