Chloramphenicol and Streptomycin in Honey Survey 2002
Following the detection of antibiotics in Chinese honey and general concern over the control of the use of antibiotics in that country, Eurofins organised a survey of chloramphenicol and streptomycin in samples of honey taken by local authorities for which Eurofins is the official enforcement laboratory.
The samples were tested using commercially available enzyme-linked immunoassays. Confirmation using GC-MS and HPLC-MS is available on request from the participating authorities.
Of the 98 samples submitted, a third contained detectable residues of one or both the antibiotics tested for.
